Gently Down The Stream
For a few days each summer Henley belongs to the rowing. The rest of the year it is a town on a river like any other. Ellie grew up here. She works now from a studio in London, and came back to redesign her parents' house — which meant deciding, room by room, what her family would keep.
Not much has been imposed. The shelves still run to Titian, Raphael and the French Romanesque, with a Walt Disney monograph among them, unapologetically. Chairs have been recovered rather than replaced. The clocks were already here.
